Reflection on John 9

Reflection on John 9

Jesus gives us BETTER sight.
Jesus heals us from blindness and gives us NEW sight.

John 9:1-41
Jesus heals the man who was born blind and enables him to see.

His neighbors and those who had formerly seen him begging asked, “Isn’t this the same man who used to sit and beg?”
Some claimed that he was.
Others said, “No, he only looks like him.”
But he himself insisted, “I am the man.”
10 “How then were your eyes opened?” they asked.
11 He replied, “The man they call Jesus made some mud and put it on my eyes. He told me to go to Siloam and wash. So I went and washed, and then I could see.”

(John 9:8-11)

Beware that we do not see with blind eyes: We can be physically able to see but see only darkness instead of Jesus' light shining through the darkness of sin and evil in the world.

Beware that our sight and view of the world not be marred in the blindness of sin and evil ruling our hearts and spirits.

Jesus tells the Pharisees that, " I came to this world to judge, so that the blind should see and those who see should become blind." (John 9:39)

May we always see Jesus as the giver of our sight every day.

May we always seek Jesus to light our way and show us how to see and how to look at the world.

May we always strive to accept our worldly, spiritual and social blindness and cry out to Jesus to heal us and teach us to see people and see the world as He sees it.

May Jesus give us new sight and insight into how to leave Jesus-like lives in the 'darknesses' and nights of a sinful world
